ETHOS

Hathaura is a jewellery and womenswear brand curated for the free spirited, igniting the connection between the earth and people.

The intended ethos of the brand is sustainable, slow fashion. Every piece of jewellery has been crafted by hand using recycled metals, giving a new lease of life from once treasured artefacts. I use ancient craft techniques to form unique structures in the jewellery, creating a bridge from the world in which the wearer came from, and the world in which we live in.

My focus when producing jewellery is to combine the fluid movement of everyday life with the unique forms of nature, the earth and the universe.

I created the brand as a mode of expression; using everyday wears as a symbol of uniqueness. I like to think of the jewellery and clothing as armour for the modern day goddess; binding together individuality with leadership.

Hathaura; the name created by a combination of Hindi dialect and the spiritual element of ones energy, the brand has been heavily influenced by a collaboration of cultures. For thousands upon thousands of years we have been placing objects of beauty and meaning on our bodies as an expression of our creative heritage. Hathaura is the continued demonstration of ourselves, remembering where we came from and looking ahead to where we are going.

I have spent a lot of time bringing the pieces to life in environmentally conscious circumstances. The clothes are all handmade in India, in an ethical, eco friendly environment; using natural dyes and local handwoven fabrics. I work along side each tailor in their small family run factories, who are as inspired in the portrayal of the brand as me. I ultimately like to strike a balance between earth-friendly fashion and high quality pieces that can be treasured a life time.

JOURNEY

I enrolled in a silversmithing course in London back in 2018  after falling in love with the creativity of it I decided to head to India, determined to discover more about the art ~ it was there that my passion came to life; I became extremely engrossed in the culture, lifestyle  and ultimately the nature of Indian style metal work. I spent 3 months working with a local lady, usually spending up to 12 hours a day working and learning alongside her. We were like sisters by the end of my time there. This experience had so much influence on my creative designs and my own personal love for silversmithing. It ultimately started my journey in becoming a jeweller.

~

After initially heading to India to focus solely on silversmithing, I found myself lead down another path; I began designing clothes. I worked with local tailors who allowed my drawings to come to life and created the most perfect pieces. The process was beautiful; all the factories were in their family homes and the workers were either family or close family friends. It was a tight-knit community and it was pretty rewarding to support such small and ethical businesses.

~

My work has always been heavily influenced by travel. Never settling in one place for too long, I have pretty much been on the move since 2013, mainly spending winters snowboarding in Europe living in my self converted campervan. I created a make-shift workbench in the van so I could continue making jewellery on the road, allowing me to travel whilst continuing to make jewels.

I not only wanted my business to almost be an extension of myself, but to structure my future and allow me to move freely being where I love, doing what I love.

This is the story of Hathaura, welcome.
